We are pleased to announce the second annual Rice University of Houston Graduate Student Conference to be held November 17-18, 2023. The conference’s theme is “Mind, Value, and Moral Psychology.” John Doris is our keynote speaker. The conference fills a gap between value theory, philosophy of mind, and moral psychology. But in general, any article in one of these realms is welcome. Papers topics include, but are not limited to:

Mind and Value
-Intersection of philosophy of mind and moral psychology
-Consciousness and ethics
Moral Motivation
-How are we motivated?
-What is praiseworthy moral motivation?
Philosophy of Emotion
-Theories of Emotion
-Philosophy of Specific Emotions
-The role of suffering in the moral life
Moral Responsibility
-Conditions for responsibility
-Freewill
-Responsibility and reactive attitudes
Moral Psychology in the History of Philosophy
-Ancient, Medieval, and Early Modern philosophers and moral psychology

The main paper should be no more than 4000 words and suitable for a 20-25 min presentation. Successful applicants will be informed by September 15th.
